How to store an auto?

I just got a benchmade auto, and was thinking that it may not be good to store it closed, due to the stress put on the spring mechanism. Or does it not really matter?

This fits in there with storing "loaded mags" !! Springs tend to be weakened from REPEATED use. Those that are stored in a "Static" condition that are not exposed to cyclic excessive heat to cold, will be just as strong long after we are no longer present !!
