Advice on Trijicon TA31F

Hello Gentlemen,

I'm new to optics (other than 4 power .22 scopes) and as of today have a gently used Trijicon TA31F with a red chevron, 4x32, sitting on my desk.

I am planning on mounting said scope on my carbine length, 16" HF barreled, 5.56 chambered AR.

I plan on hunting paper targets and the occasional critter out to 300m + or - .

Would anyone here have any advice for mounting or any tips/tricks for utilization?

Respectfully, GD

It's pretty much Forrest Gump proof.... once you put it on zero it and it should stay that way.

These are new fangled things to me as well. https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produ...t1.php?id=ACOG

There are ten different powered versions with several different reticle's available (1.5x16 to 6x48).

Best I can come up with is it is a fixed powered, self-illuminating scope with red-dot like qualities.

Recommended setup for a AR Carbine length (16-18") in .300/.223/5.56 engaging at 25-300M?

Recommended setup for a AR Carbine length (16-18") in .308/7.62 engaging at 25-500M?

Recommended options: BDC, LED, angled backup fixed sight, ACOG/RMR combos, type of reticle, etc.

Advantages of the ACOG vs the VCOG or TARS?

Are they worth the money (best place to get one)?

How to train, using FOG eyes?

You know I'm not a drill, and I used one on active duty. I have one now on my "primary" rifle. It's not rocket science, it works well.

TS. I am well aware that you are not, and I truly appreciate your guidance. It was the "gump" reference that triggered the comedic due diligence in my mind. WILCO.
Thank you for the direct education

I built this Carbine over the past year or so..
LRB upper and lower, BCM BCG, and BC HF barrel.
It is a departure from the M1A and the Flint Locks, and has been enjoyable,
but I know nothing but all irons from my enlistment.

No disrespect intended.

MR2,
I'm having issues with those FOG eyes too. I researched the red dots and figured I'd have to add magnification, so I went the Trijicon rout to save a little money.
Hell, I had to move the rear sight forward on all of my rifles over the past year.
Still doing PT though.
