Warm weather this year

Just a note for anyone going to the summer class of phase II, We expect very warm weather this year, Be sure to drink water and the gatoraid we give you.
also if you are a prior heat casualty we need to know! dont hold that information back from the cadre. The ruck sack will still be 70-90lbs in the summer months we just take a few more breaks to drink water while on a knee is all for anyone wanting G-2

Any other questions about Phase II here is your chance.
Within reason I wont give you keys to the cassle. only helpful info

This is good advice for all you hopefulls! I have watched many students think that they could just tough it out, not properly hydrate and drop like flys. The cadre do not need any more cross training events on popping IVs, they have become proficient enough to do it with their eyes closed. Not only is this life threatening but it shows that you are not ready for prime time as we do not need folks that cannot or will not use their head and learn to deal with the environments in which they have to train or operate.

During the summer of 1980 (the big heatwave) I did ROTC Advanced Camp at Ft Riley, Airborne, and CTLT at Benning (I was SMP while first in college) - we had very few heat casualties among the students, but at Riley there were numerous cadre heat injuries and 5 deaths from guys trying to be tough. NDD will be able to back me up about the protocol at ABN that summer - we rolled the showers a lot, and every single one of those rolls ended with a roll in the sawdust, cooled off but uncomfortable. Do not screw around with the heat, especially at MacKall, water is best in the body, not the canteen, but don't walk around with empty canteens as a rule. Extra canteens (if allowed) are a good thing, a camelback (if allowed) is a good thing, heat injuries due to poor hydration are bad and stupid.

No jokes about the ROTC thing, my SGM at TCU told me that I would never be an officer even though I was trying to get early commissioned, he told me I would be an SF NCO - and yes, he was a true SF stud, and he was 100% correct. Thanks SGM B.

my .02, YMMV
