Hello everyone,

I am currently a 16 year old high school {student} that is planning on pursuing a career in Special Forces. I am planning on serving in the regular Army for an enlistment before trying my hand at SF. I have immense respect for the Special Forces soldiers and know that I have much to learn.

Intro

Hello everyone I am currently AD Air Force SERE Specialist. My ETS is 11SEP12. I am trying to get a 18X contract. The recruiter said that it might be difficult because I am an E-5 and they want E-4's. If I cannot get and AD contract I would like to try out for A/5-19th SFG(A) in Southern California.

Introduction and delurk

Hello all,

I am a regular civilian living in North Carolina, and I've lurked on and off around this site for a few years, which I originally found while trying to find information about an individual in a book I was reading at the time. I'm a software engineer, I like playing just about any sport, I actively run, cycle, swim, and study aikido, I like reading about Central Asian history, medieval Islamic architecture, and well-written science for the layman.

I'm interested in finding out info about my late uncle, Robert E. Austin, Jr., who I believe served in the C/??/20 in or around 1964-1965, in a detachment (ODB, I think, I don't know if he did time in an ODA) in Jacksonville, FL. He passed away in September of last year in less than ideal circumstances and deserves to be remembered. I would love to hear from anyone who might have known him during his time in service.

I just noticed my old intro was completely removed when the old intro thread was deleted, so here we go again.

I served 4+ years AD in the USMC as an 0331, and I currently serve in the reserves under the same MOS.

Posting? OK I'm new at it.

Hey all. My time in SF was with 5th Group when we were still in Bragg. then DLI then 1st Group. After Oki, I made my way to OH and served with 11SF then 19SF, while working in law enforcement. I bought my military time and retired early as a precinct sgt. with Columbus Police. Later I worked with the UN in East Timor, then worked contracts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Oh the fun. Last year I hiked the A.T. start to finish as a thru-hiker, 5 months. My trail name is Mingo. I went with that because it is the name of my Masonic Lodge. Mingo Lodge 171.

I don't usually get into political debates. I voted for both Bushes which I don't mind saying and I voted for Obama to which I feel equally valid for doing. I vote for whom I believe will serve our country during its current needs. I have never spoken poorly about a sitting president, not even Clinton during the Monica affair. Calling our president names and saying crap like "get the guns" is out right wrong! Being in SF gave me enough strength and knowledge to realize our government is not perfect but it is stronger when we work together.

I'm a really young guy seeking to learn more about the SOF community. At this time, I aim to earn the distinction of the Green Beret in my(relatively far) future.

I look forward to reading these forums and interacting with and learning from this great community.

Introduction

Hi all,

I am a 19 year old 18x shipping 20130311. I have used this site quite a bit while learning about what SF does and deciding to make earning a green beret my goal. Now that I have enlisted and got my 18x contract I figured it was time to register and post an introduction. I probably wont be posting, as every question I have has already been answered here, so thanks to the QP's who run this site for providing an excellent resource!

I received a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1982 and worked as an aerospace engineer on the Space Shuttle. I then was on the original design team that developed the land attack Tomahawk cruise missile. I then became involved in high level classified stealth missile design. I started my Navy Career in the Naval Air Reserve in 1987. I went to flight school at Pensacola and received my wings as a P-3 Orion naval flight officer in 1990. I flew for three years and transferred to an air operation unit where I stayed and eventually became the XO.

As a reservist, I participated in multiple global deployments and active duty stints focusing on Anti -Submarine Warfare, Maritime patrol and counter narcotics. I took a job as a civilian engineer at China Lake Naval Weapons center in 2002. I went on active duty when I was asked to assume the role of Military Deputy for Weapons.

In 2002, I volunteered to go to the Middle East to serve as officer in charge of the deployment of two newly developed CAS targeting platforms during Operation Southern Watch. I was later attached to the Air Force 720th Special Tactics Group in support of SEAL 3 and 5, Army 5th SFG, Navy Helo COmbat Squadron FIVE, Predator, the Air Force 23 STS, and a certain OGA during the start of the Iraq war. I was inserted into SF intelligence where I participated in planning the SEAL atack ont he Al Faw Penisula, SF inserts into Baghdad and other missions.

In response to the high air to ground fratricide rate, I was the first to deploy the Precision Strike Suite for Special Operations Forces(PSSSOF) CAS targeting system. There are now over 19,000 users of that device.

I was the first military member to receive a military diagnosis for mefloquine toxicity and the first veteran to receive a VA rating for such. I was disability retired as a full active duty Navy Commander and my injuries were rated as combat related. Four members of my reserve unit were diagnosed with the same injury. I have since gotten 16 others to Balboa Naval Hospital and Bethesda where they were all diagnosed with a vestibular injury from mefloquine toxicity. Nine years later, I still have significant issues with my balance and still have vision damage.

I have personally triaged over 90 veterans and service members with this disrder by getting them to the proper medical care most others have been denied. I continue to work the mefloquine issue with senior medical professionals in the Department of Defense and the VA. I also work close hold with Congress and veterans service orgnaizations like the Vietnam Vets of America.

Hello all,

I thought I posted an intro but I just realized I was wrong.

I recently enlisted into the CA ARNG as 11B and will be shipping off to OSUT in September.

I came to this site to learn more about SF!

Thank you.

Sean
