There are a number of M-4 rail systems, each with a different NSN.

Thats what I figured, with all the companies that offer rail systems now days it makes sense that several have NSN's.
My quest continues....

What you are looking for is the Master Cross Reference List. You can look here and maybe find a free link ( http://www.dlis.dla.mil/mcrd.asp). I think that I have one at work. When this was out in Micro Fiche, it was a stack about 5 inches tall!!! There is everything in here from corned beef hash to thermo-nuclear devices or Air to Air Missles!!!
Good luck.

Just because somehting has an NSN does not mean it can be easily ordered throught the army supply system. A good number for the complete M-4 rail assy is 01-452-3527. However, this is a class II nonexpendable item, so you will need to get your PBO involved if you want to order them and properly account for them. An alternate solution is to Fedlog the given assembly and order the seperate components which happen to be class 9 expendable. Goodluck

The Ops folks can always lay out what you would like to do but it is often the Loggie that tells you what is possible when he defines those pesky limiting factors.

Thanks for all the post....I will start digging into those areas. My TXARNG unit is updating a lot of things and the M-4 is one of them. We are a small CID detachment and everyone is wearing many hats and not a lot of experience in some of the logistics stuff. Thanks again.

1. Contact your DS unit if your armorer doesn't have a copy of TM 9-1005-319-23&P for the M4/M16Awhatever. The current changes have the NSNs for all the rail parts. Also, your pubs NCO should be able to get your armorer the most current CD of manuals.
2 There's a MWO that's been out for years (sorry, don't have it available right now as I'm off duty and it's at work. I'll scrounge it up tomorrow.) making the M4 RAS standard on all M4s, so your CO should be able to have those ordered without using unit funds. This includes the MaTech back up iron sight and moves the detachable carrying handle to the AAL list.
