Thumbs down

in and out of aircraft or boats... them dudes who work around water seem to like them.

But as the po-po I think they are a bad idea in a knock down drag out. The 'retention' lanyard becomes a strap that someone can use to yank the pistol out of your holster without ever getting a hand on it.

Pistol Lanyards

Gentlemen,

As far as pistol retaining lanyards I would have to say I am not really convinced I need one. I have seen some high tech looking lanyard systems and I understand about not loosing your pistol and the fact that it is designed to break away at weights that should keep you from hanging by your pistol or having somebody swing you around by it. My biggest problem with retention lanyards is if my pistol does come out of my 6004 Safariland holster I would now be dragging a hot gun behind me on the end of the lanyard that might shoot me or worse yet a fellow ODA member.

My .02

Used a lanyard for heliborne ops in the S.A. Police after seeing a guy lose his pistol out the door. In fact, after that, I tied everything to me when doing heli-ops!

Take Care...

I also watched a guy drop a pistol from a helicopter during a combat operation. All I'll say is that he should not have been f***ing with it in the first place.

I've never worn a lanyard and never will.

I have returned more than one very expensive pistol to an embarrased owner. I have heard that they can lose their job if they lose a gun. I have never seen any of them use a lanyard though.
