Just gave my 10 year old (today!) his first BB gun.
He was suprised. The picture is priceless.
Both my parents were career teachers.
Their work schedules matched the school schedules of me and my sister.
Had my mother as a teacher in 5th grade English, 9th, 10th, and 12th grade French.
Had my father as a teacher for 10th, 12th grade English; he was my high school basketball coach, and track coach for several years.
Can't give quite the same thing to my own kids, but UPS has generous paid time off, and staffing allows for some unpaid time off as well.
They're kids for only a short while. Doin' my best to make the time count.

Oh, that brings back memories, and a tear to the eye. 10 is such a great age. You have my sincere envy.

I have a friend that's deployed...had a brief exchange with him late last night about some stuff, including the food he's eating "over there"...
Got up early this morning and went to help my dad with some gardening I had promised him. Was in the middle of hanging out with my dad, small talk and laughter and pulling weeds around the vegetables, when I suddenly thought of my friend.
In the midst of my happy, carefree morning, someone was sacrificing their time away from their family to ensure that I had a lifetime of mornings like this.
My "happy thought of the day" is really a thanks to all of you "over there"....my words are small, but thanks, Warriors, you're efforts are appreciated and will not be in vain.

In his wisdom, a member of my staff parked his luxury saloon so close to his workstation that I could not help but notice it.
But everything is going to be fine. You see, the guy explained that he's from down south and that Jaguars are less expensive there.

Nice car, diphthong
The "aha" moment that comes after thinking how a guy who works one shift a week as a parking cashier can afford a Toyota Camry hybrid.
Hint. If anyone working in a parking facility consistently chats you up, it aint necessarily because he [or she] is especially friendly or finds you to be an interesting person--especially if the conversation consistently turns to your travel and/or vacation plans.

Summer is very much here!
Kids are eating popsicles and playing in the wading pool under our cherry tree.
Two weeks ago, we were coming back from Fredonia (~60 miles west) and hit a snow storm.
It's 105 degrees outside right now.
Love summertime.

Looking forward to a much-needed weekend off - I will get to see my son's last soccer game of the season (he's the league's standout player ), play my first round of golf of the year with my father and catch up on the yardwork.

Not havingCancer .................
Maggie had a CT scan which came out negative...........
Her annual xray on her liver and spline came out positive with a mass on her spline..
Her next test was an ultra sound which confirmed a mass 5m by 5m by 3m,and next came the CT scan which confirmed that the mass was fatty tissue and not a tumor.

My 15 y/o son finished his Eagle Scout project and just had his Scoutmaster Conference. The heavy lifting for Eagle is now done, and he is the happiest I have seen him all year.

Lawn care
About an hour spent cutting/ welding 3 worn eyebolts for the deck mower. New eyebolts $17 each, hand made $6 for 3 bolts. Savings of $45.
Having my 3 year old daughter hammer in brass spacers and hand me tools while fixing the mower, allot of fun.
3 hours mowing the area, just another day getting it done, 2 gallons regular gas $6
Having my 3 year old run out of the house across the fresh cut grass and giving me a huge hug and saying "thank you for mowing My grass Daddy"
Priceless

Big Teddy,
While it must have been a very stressful few days, the end result is good. I am very happy for you and your bride.
