Oh no, it's only a matter of time before she starts to bring boys home...

I need to buy more guns.
I will smoke a good cigar and send prayers up for you, your wife and your
soon-to-be dughter! Congratulations!

And the boy's don't really start to be a problem for another 10-12 years.

So I'm upstairs giving the little girl (5) the business about sassing her mom and I hear the boy (7) downstairs telling his mom 'Dad's just like John Wayne, isn't he mom? He just knows how to get it done with us troops!'

Best commentary anyone has ever delivered on me EVER & it ain't even close!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I see quite a few sleepless nights in your future.

The smiles they bring are more than worth it though.

Just now heard those unmistakable radial engines and ran outside to watch a B-24 which just took off and was flying over at around 500' AGL. One of the joys of living near an airport which has an aviation museum and is used as a staging field for the Commemorative Air Force so it must've been their "Ol' 927" bird from Midland/Odessa.

Crap, I just turned green… This morning I had my cage rattled buy an F-22A taking off for ‘dawn patrol’ or whatever the pilots call it these days. A pair of old, leaky radials would be a nice change. All well.

Happy thought: jet noise, one of the many sounds of freedom.

While in Va Bch in late Sept, _every_ morning the jets would take off rattling the hotel windows. I loved that sound. Some apparently do not.. A local pawn shop has the perfect reply to those. Yes, it is the sound of freedom and of those who keep me free. I also had a ringside seat so to speak, to see the Blue Angels practicing for the airshow that was to take place the a few days after I left.

I will just have to wait for the Thunderbirds at MacDill next spring I guess.

I grew up in the flight path for B-52s/B-58s/KC-135s near Mather AFB. We, too, referred to it as the 'sound of freedom' for us all. I remember the Cuban Missle Crisis as nothing but the sound and smoke trails of B-52s and KC-135s in the air 24/7.

I used that anecdote later when dealing with Germans who purchased homes near our bases in Europe and then complained about the noise.

Remembering all that just gave me my happy thought of the day.

For my brother more than me:

Today my brother's beloved branch of service, the USMC, has it's birthday. Tomorrow, his oldest has hers. God bless them both.

AMC is having a RAmbo one and two back to back. Just finished "first blood." Watching the 2nd movie now. Here I thought it was going to be a tv wasteland evening.

This is my oldest grand-daughter. Someday she might be responsible for that whoop-whoop-whoop sound we hold so dear, early in the morning . Her Daddy, Son Numba One, just pinned on his Major leaves! (No, but he is a damn fine MI guy!)

I am the first patron to check out a new book from the local public library. This means I won't turn a page to find that someone used a magical nose goblin as a bookmark.
