The purchase of the Yarborough Knife has been discontinued before.

No sign that is near again, but just in case, I would recommend that anyone wanting the knife, go ahead and start the purchase of one now.

Or we can start a new thread entitled "I Didn't Get the Knife When I Had the Chance Snivels".

My vague and unsubstantiated understanding is that the end is nigh. When the current production is given out to the graduating students then they will no longer get one. It would seem to follow that there will be no more for ex-SF but that might not be the case if there continues to be a demand.

I do not know the true facts so perhaps none of this is true. Rumor mongering is a hazardous occupation so I apologize up front for any misrepresentation of the situation.

I'm glad someone was able to get one. I have been waiting for 2 months and still do not have an authorization letter.

Sir,

Some of the earlier runs of the Yarborough did not display an "SF" as a prefix to the serial number. For reference, look at the pic posted by Buffalobob- post 52- on page 4 of this thread. Hope that helps.

Edited to add: One wonders, however, if it reached the armslist "seller" by honest means. I was under the impression that the Yarborough knives were not to be sold.

My money is on it being a genuine, found or stolen Yarborough. If it's a copy, it's a well executed one.

My understanding:

The "SF" serialized knives are the issued ones to the new graduates.

The non-sf serialized knives are the ones sold in book-store to the OLD FOGs that have proof of having earned the their MOS's, prior to the 18x series..

It had to do with keeping the sequence numbers separate, yet still accountable..

The First knives that the Bookstore sold did not have any Alpha Prefix. I have 0569 for example. They started adding the SF Prefix when the initial run was exhausted, I believe mainly to keep the "Graduate's" #s sequential and not broken by the FOGs!! My Son got 9996 last April, no Alpha Prefix.
