Hello Quiet Professionals,

My name is Chase and I've just recently signed an 18x contract. I ship out 20070807 so I have been using this time to ready my body and mind. I was in the process of reading "Get Selected" and went to this site as recommended. I'm glad I did and look forward to learning as much as possible.

I have a high school diploma and have 62 college credits. I was always taught owing money was a very bad thing so I decided to enlist in the army (something I've wanted to do since high school) to get more money for college.

I look forward to any interaction I will have on this board and the journey ahead of me.

Welcome aboard Chase and good luck with the contract. If you don't mind let me make an observation. I gather from your post that your goal is to earn more money for college, leave the military as soon as you have obtained your financial goal, and go on to other things. If that is correct, then read on, if not pay no attention to what follows. SF needs folks that are willing to make a commitment to their life style, mission, core values, and goals. As this only comes with years of experience after training your short term outlook will not serve the needs of SF and especially will not serve the needs of your future team as they need your head in the game 24/7 working towards the same vision they all share. SF does not need folks with short term goals of "doing their bit" and getting out. While that might be an admirable goal for those electing to serve in other branches of the service, it is not something that is going to contribute to the overall mission profile requirements of SF. You might want to either reorder your priorities or seek another venue to meet you financial and college goals.

Hello, My name is Bobby Efurd. I live in Dothan,Al.. I graduated from the Q course in November of 1980. I served as a Weapons Sgt. on an A-Tream with Co. A 1/20th SFG. I was a police officer with the Dothan, Al. police dept. I was assigned to the police dept. swat team. I served there for 4 years. I left the Dept. to accept a position with the family business. I left the 20th in 1986.
during my younger years I was an advid skydiver,scuba diver and motorcycle racer. I had to change jobs so I could afford all my hobbies.
Now I run the business, ride my Harley and play with my two grandchildren.
Big change!
I will do a lot of looking and not much talking.

I thought the same thing as JM when I read your intro.

There are easier ways to pay for college, and an 18X contract is a six-year commitment. Think about where you were six years ago.

As much as we talk about motivation here, if you do some searching (both on this board and within your heart), you will find that the financial benefits will not keep you a degree warmer, make you any less tired, heal the blisters on your feet and back, make your feet walk another klick, or fill your stomach when it is empty and you are out at Camp Mackall, busting your ass trying to get selected.

That sort of motivation makes you likely to quit SF selection or training and spend the rest of your six years in the Army as an infantryman. Nothing wrong with that, but I think that you are overestimating yourself, your chances of success, and your motivation for financial reasons.

Just offered for your consideration, not a personal atttack in any way.

I plan on staying in the Army for a long time. I've wanted to enlist since high school but decided to go to college because I had already saved up money to do so (Started saving when I was 10 years old with birthday money).

I apologize, I should have included more information in my intro. I fully understand the commitment it takes to be SF and I wont just come in and jet. I am going to make this a career.

I just made sure to get the G.I. Bill in the contract so that when I do leave (possibly when I'm not on active duty) I have sufficient funds to finish a degree.

Hey all, I cant remember if I posted an intro (CRS ya know!) Anyway, I'm Bob and my screen name may give away my last name, but if not, oh well. Been reading some good stuff on here, alot of good info, current and historical. I am up in DOT -D now as the training developer for the 18E's, yes I do ACTUALLY work! I was in A/3/5 from 82-87(JR Commo) , Commo Committee from 88-91, (Commo Instructor), B/2/3 91-96 (TM SGT) and then moved to 5th in C/1/5, 96-99 (TM SGT) until I retired at campbell. Decided to come back to bragg, its kinda like rome, all roads seem to lead us here. Anytway, good to meet you all.

Greetings gentlemen. I am a Sergeant in the US Army, stationed in Fort Belvoir, VA currently. I'm looking into taking the SF route some time within the next year or two; I need to get my mental and physical readiness up a notch before I do it.

Hopefully I'll take a tip from the QPs and be as quiet as possible, while absorbing your valuable knowledge like a sponge. I've already taken in more info on the SF community than I have ever learned in one place. Less posting, more reading is what I intend to do here.

Thank you for operating this site, and thank you for doing what you do (or have done, in the case of retired/ex/fallen brothers).

Jeff here,

Did 3 years, all of them as 11B with the 1-325th AIR at Bragg, finishing up in June '06. However, after a year of civilian life and working miserable jobs just to pay the bills, I am strongly considering reenlistment.

Either way, while I spend my days doing PT to get back to the shape I was in, or better, I will enjoy just perusing this forum and occassionally conversing with likeminded people. I am more of a reader and listener than a speaker so don't expect the post count to rise too quickly.

Like any new and developing OCONUS post, it was difficult at first, but I learned a lot, worked with some good people, and actually wound up enjoying myself.
