The 10th had been made up and moved to Germany from the 77th SF, The remaining made up the 7th.
Actually the 10th went to Germany and left the 77th behind, which was made up of guys from the 10th.

The 77th Company became the 7th Group.

In those days the Company (C Team) is what the Bn is now. The B Team was just a part of the Company.

At least that is my recollections.

Some liberal PC bastard decided that the colors of the border extending into the next color made the flash "Reminiscent" of the Hakenkreuz and so the border was changed on the new flash. Somebody must have gone home on leave and told his sister who was a member of PETA, that he ate a bunny rabbit on Cherokee Trail. Either that, or he was a 91B4S and told her about "Dog Lab".LOL

I was a SOT-A guy in 2d Bn from 90-96. When I first got to Bragg in the fall of 90 some of the guys bought their 3d Gp flashes on Yadkin road and all that was available at the time off post were the old flashes. Some of those shops must have had a stash from when 3d Gp deactivated. At any rate, you should have heard the bitching and monaing over those flashes by the CSM. The words swastika and nazi were thrown around alot.

Once again proving that the ignorance of one's history(the blending of the four Groups into one Group) can cause a loss of heritage(the loss of the blended flash).

It is a shame that SGMs can be that dam dumb.

What I think is REALLY interesting is that I have seen a Sioux Indian symbol that is round and uses the same colors and has the border like the old 3d Group flash. Makes me wonder if it wasn't an inspiration for the flash.
Also, not to defend the politically correct mindset of the time, but just as we were standing up 3d Group there was a scandal involving the "theft" of unit weapons from 7th Group and implicated were a few guys with ties with white supremacy groups.

TR,
That is a BIG Negative. I was on SOT-A 306 from 90-96 before making the great leap over to the Air Force.

Amazing how many ex-3d Group folks end up at SOCPAC. When I got here there were quite a few and yesterday I showed up at Lightning DZ and the 87th QM Dets new Warrant used to work at the 3d Group Rigger shed.

Talking

When I got to 3rd in 91 there was NO money period. We practically had to have bake sales just to deploy. Seemed like every staff officer out there wanted to save Uncle Sam's money. Our motto was "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". Didn't go over well with Bn or Grp. Oh how the times have changed.

I was at USASFC when 3rd Group was going to Haiti. They took away the Sep Rats and declined the UN Peacekeeping pay as part of the USG contribution to the cause. Very bad for morale.

When I was back in 7th Group a year or two later, I was at Finance picking up an advance for a 90 day deployment down South. As I was at the cage counting the $13,000 or so, the SF guys I had been in line with were bugging and asked me how long I was gone. When I told them, they were amazed and showed me their settlements for six months in Haiti for less than $500.

Pretty scary, and they wonder why we can't retain people now.

Yeah, I remember all of that crap. It sucked watching the Pakis during UNMIH getting fat . One of many the reasons I switched services.

Old memories, may be off abit but ColMurph can confirm or deny.

Absolutely correct....I've got one of the original flashes and the colors of one cell run into the next cell on the outside so the end result is that it appears to be a swastika with a curved bottom. It was changed when 3d Group stood up again in 1990.

Anyone still an old 2/3 shirt circa 92-94???? I do.... Kinsinger hated those shirts..... "Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap" B/2/3 started that and it just grew....shirts were everywhere...I think I remember a memo from Kinsinger saying he didn't want to see them anymore in the group area.

Well, after Haiti, it sort of made sense, didn't it?
