TR,
Melvin is 6'4" and just over 200 lbs. When he got hurt in the first bad logging accident he had over 30% of his quadriceps removed because they'd been without blood supply and exposed to air for too long. He's looking pretty lean now but can still hit hard enough to stay in world class competition. The first accident should have ended his life let alone his logging competition.
Jim Alexander (from Australia) was a monster and a champion. He started working in his fathers rock quarry at age 13 with a pick and wheelbarrow. He had a mean streak too.
I remember twenty years ago when he'd just turned 50 and was doubting his ability to compete in professional timber sports. He then won the US Championships in chopping that year. I told him to quit whining (from a safe distance).
My point of mentioning all this is the shape of the axe edge for what I think is the ultimate chopping test for a human powered edged tool.

First Prototype of 2010
Happy New Year everyone! This is my first one for 2010. This is the prototype for a knife I'm doing for a Marine, the final one has a few minor changes. This is a couple of firsts for me, my first tanto type grind, and first time doing serrations. Heres the specs;
10 in overall length
5 1/4 in blade
cord wrap handle (it was supposed to be temporary but he liked it and wants to keep it)
Final version will be 3/16 CPM 154
Thanks for looking, comments always welcome
Eric

Ummm... Eric, send me one to try and break and I'll give you feedback.... I like the design from the picture, but without time to beat it up, all I can say is ooooooooh, pretty!
I'm still trying to break my Christmas present from Harsey, and I'm not having any luck, I haven't been able to break my Spartan, and my Sebenza is still in good shape... Be prepared for a long field test and multiple sharpenings... I promise i'll return it.... one day this century

Here's the latest. This will be one of last ones for a while. I'll be moving to San Diego in June so I need to start packing up the shop. I still need to do a couple of O1 blades just not sure if I'll I'm going to have the time.
Tried something different on this one. I used natural phenolic for the handles and wasn't happy with the the way it looked so I dyed them, much better now. Also played with the etch to, ended up with a faint stripe pattern. Thanks for looking and feedback is always welcome.
Eric
Here are the specs
10 1/8 overall length
3/16 ATS34
5 in blade
dyed natural micarta handles
