I think you are ok shooting pistol at AR 400 steel (AR = Brinell?) but you want 500 for rifle. I know we have "no rifle" painted on a bunch of the silhouettes at the range.

AR= Abrasion Resistant. The number appears to be the Brinell hardness number.

Easily made fixture

Here is a fixture I made for my torch head. You need to buy a set collar that fits
over the torch tip if you don't have a lathe. The rest is just mild steel. Move the
block to the radius you want to cut. Center punch the center of your hole. Drill a 3/16th" hole to start cutting will make it easier. Hope this helps. SK
