Way back in the days that may have been true however, when 3rd Group was re-established it was stood up by guys from 3rd Bn 5thSFG(A) and became 1st Bn 3rd SFG(A)...there was only one battalion for a while.

Actually TR, 10th did not contribute to 3rd as they were in Germany. The colors of the 3rd Group flash indicate the groups involved in the establishment of the Group. The original flash showed a blending of htese groups into one, but alas, some PC idiot thought it resembled a nazi swastika and had it removed.
Old memories, may be off abit but ColMurph can confirm or deny.

3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) 1st Special Forces
5 December 1963 Activated Fort Bragg, NC
18 February 1964 Personnel Transferred from the 1st, 7th, 5th and Training Groups (Airborne) to make up the 3rd SF Group, giving the Group the Colors for its Flash
Yellow from the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne)
Red from the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
Black from the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
White from Special Forces Training Group Group (Airborne)
The 10th had been made up and moved to Germany from the 77th SF, The remaining made up the 7th.
