During PLDC I would get SOS, eggs over easy/medium, potatoes, and a biscuit or toast and mix it all together and eat it with a big spoon.

That was tasty.

Worst S.O.S. ever? FTX where we were getting our chow from one of the 18th ABN CORPS ARTY BN's, and the S.O.S. had the distinct odor of diesel. Our CW3 was NOT happy. He was about 6'6" and affectionately called "Lumpy" (but not to his face) for the brutal punishment he dished out during Platoon PT in the Bear Pit, or in other full-contact sports.

The next hot chow delivery was made by a MSG, and was close to the best food I ever ate that came out of a mermite container.

Grit haters will not be tolerated on this board.

Sir, wow, that's it, that's it! I have now discovered what I have been doing wrong all these years...no wonder I am still single. It's all about the grits. A-Ha!

What would I eat instead of grits?

Well dirt comes to mind. Anything but grits, no grits and cheese, no grits and butter or any other funky combination of grits and something.

Grits are great.
Marmite and Vegemite, which tastes different, should be tasted on whole grain toast with butter and a VERY thin layer of the black goop. Too much, and it's too strong. But seriously, try it.

Brew Sir, I prefer to cook a homestyle breakfast. Honestly, I have never had a "grit". How about eggs over easy, pancakes with butter and maple syrup, sausage, biscuits with gravy, and hash browns? It tastes great with a vodka-orange juice?

Well? Maybe?

I've been having grits and hashbrowns after morning PT every day. Greatest thing when you're shivering at 0800.

Sir, my favorite thing recently after morning PT is water and a muffin. Grits are an aquired taste...IMHO.

Wow! I can hear your arteries hardening from here.

Breakfast for me is a pot of coffee, a bowl of cereal (usually Honeycombs) and a piece of fruit with some yogurt.

Sorry NDD, this might knock me out of position as your favorite college boy, but I can't stand the stuff. I'm neither southern nor Yankee, so I think I have a bit of neutrality, but I gotta say, grits are about the worst breakfast food I've run across, beside fried tomatoes.

For a real breakfast, biscuits and gravy are the heat. Especially if you can get some large chunks of crumbled sausage in that gravy. Steaks and eggs (over easy, of course) might just tie. Pancakes are useless as food; their only purpose for existence is to act as sponges for transporting good maple syrup to my mouth. Ham is good, patty sausage better, and thick-cut bacon best.

Echoes, never did try the screwdriver-for-breakfast technique. Sounds like a good idea, though. As for the single bit, I don't think it's because of grits; I'd ascribe it to a lack of good taste in the men in your area.

If only! I do not eat what I fix...it is not in my dietary plan. The men I fixed that breakfast for are all about PT. Not a pound did they gain.
