TAG/unit release to SF
I USED the search button and couldn't find anything on this, so I was hoping to get an answer from one of you.
I am in a situation, unit is deploying soon, and don't think my unit will release me to go to the 19th SFG. I understand why and all, but is there anyway to get released aside from an IST? I am not trying to piss people off and have a good relationship with my unit currently. I am just looking to do bigger and better things in my carreer at this point in time. I am not trying to get out of a deployment, which probably comes to many minds, as I have a deployment under my belt already. SF has always been a dream of mine and I have just now pulled my head from my 4th point of contact to make it possible. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I believe that SF is a 'calling' - not too different from the calling missionaries I know received. I knew instantly that it was for me, and that I would do all I could to achieve it. Most others I know in SF experienced something similar. If, as you say, you HAVE searched and read, and you do not KNOW if this is the path for you --- it is not....

Thank you all for the time and responses. I guess morally, I was thinking the same. I let the group know about the situation at hand already and they said to come down and try out anyway, and if they release me they release me. Thanks again.

If you have the time before you deploy, build a relationship with the 19th. It'll make it that much easier when you get back if somebody knows your name and that you're interested. Knowing that you sucked it up and met your moral obligations to the current unit will help too.
