Police: Jordanian Man Stabs Sister to Death in 'Honor Killing'

AMMAN, Jordan —
A Jordanian man stabbed his sister to death with a dagger in an "honor killing" because of rumors she was dating a man, a police official said Thursday.

The 24-year-old farmer, who turned himself in and confessed to the killing, was charged with murder, the official said.

An autopsy showed the victim, who was 27 years old, was four weeks pregnant, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to journalists.

The man said in his confession that he killed his sister because he heard rumors she was dating a man, the official said.

In some conservative areas of Jordan and elsewhere in the Middle East, people disapprove of an unwed woman having any relationship with an unrelated man and consider it to reflect negatively on her family.

An average of 20 Jordanian women are killed annually in slayings that are known as honor killings because the perpetrators say they believe their actions will restore their family's community standing.

The government has battled the problem with harsher sentences for perpetrators.

20 women a year? Who are they trying to kid. I bet the real number is a lot higher then 20. What a dirtbag. If he went after the guy, then maybe I would have the slightest bit of respect for him, but to stab his sister. Frigging shitfingers!

Its tragic that the poor woman was born to such a loving family.
...and some how America is "arrogant" for assuming that we can make the world a better place. Bring back the caliphate!

If Islam is so against it why are the courts in Islamic parts of the world so tolerant of Honor killings?

You can get more time for killing a dog in the US then you would for killing your sister in Jordan.

physical and/or mental injury." A one-word translation would be
"Dissimulation." [1]

"Nine tenths of religion is taqiyyah (dissimulation), hence one who does not dissimulate has no religion." (Al-Kafi vol.9 p.110) [3]

Right, and true socialism is extremely compatible with the real world. When I start to see the same "outrage" about this - from Muslims everywhere - as I saw about cartoons of the Muslim prophet Mohamed, then I might really change my mind. Until then, the timid and nearly non-existent responses on things such as this translate into tacit approval.
