Is it better to take steps to becoming Special Forces?

I'm not a big fan of the 40X contract as I think those kids are typically way too green for such a monumental task. I think it is better to enlist as a 11B, go airborne, attempt at becoming a Ranger and spending a few years in the Regiment, and then taking the necessary steps at becoming Special Forces. Thoughts?

taskforceiron,
Are you asking or telling us that an individual should be Ranger, Airborne, INF first? I take it you've seen the data concerning such facts and figures?
Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one. This is close to trolling, support your data or remove it and ask just questions.

Special Forces A-Teams take individuals on real-world missions all the time that possess no combat skills, none, zip, nada. (Air Force PJ's come to mind.)
Point is, you can be as green as the spring grass when you walk in the shadows of an A-Team.

I am asking you if this would increase the chances of success towards a Special Forces career? I'm a 41 year old man who is a combat veteran. I'm not here to stir shit.

Your post is confusing to me. Are you confusing Option 40 with an 18X contract?

Or are you saying that a guy goes 11B, BAC, and spend time in a unit before going to RIP/ROP (can't remember what term replaced RIP) and then Regiment and then SF?

Yes I am. I apologize.

Yes on all of the above. I am asking your thoughts on such a path? If it would increase the likelihood of success than just going straight in on a 18x contract?

Please review the rules at the top of this forum.

You should probably also do some searching and reading before posting again.

For that matter, the OP should have done some more searching and reading before starting this thread.

My SF Company has its share of 18X's and Rep 63's. Some are squared away and others should be flushed away, that also includes guys who spent time in AD and then went SF.

My two cents is: it's not the route they took to become SF that matters, it's what they do after they come to the teams that matters. Although, it seems to me that the guys who come from units, generally have a understanding of administrative functions then guys who went straight into SF.

Well, you started three new threads, rehashing info that is here already and asking stale old questions.

If your departure means that we are going to be denied that, then I doubt that you will be much missed here.

I wish you the best of luck as well with whatever you decide to do.

I'm sure you have reviewed the threads concerning age. At 41 you might want to think about other options.

Most (new guys) in Special Forces are in their 20's. by the time they are in their mid 30's they are senior Special Forces soldiers, by late 30's most are Master Sergeants and SGM's.

Your operational terms are off. The 40x option is for those desiring entry into the 75th Ranger Regiment or what most refer to as a Ranger Contract.

Does the 18x have it's drawbacks? Show me a system that doesn't. Some people do better than others no matter what experiences they are bringing with them, be it Ranger, Cook or whatever. No one ever really knows what they will do when the bullets start to rain down on them. You would hope that they would fall back on their training and apply where necessary.

Fact is that after being at war for nearly 9 yrs now, some of the guys we get Are more experienced than others. But some new comers will be better performers after their first Combat Deployment than others. I don't have my slide rule out today to crunch the numbers on where they fall on 18x vs 11BV vs Reg Army.

I'm biased on the whole Ranger Contract thing, but that doesn't necessarily mean that that person would be ideal for SF, or Vice Versa. Different Mission, Different Mindset. Many don't understand that..........

Isn't there an age limit to joining SF?.................
