10.5 Inch MSTN Upper

This all started out as a question about gas port size and ended with me buying a brand new upper.

This is my new 10.5 inch upper from Wes Grant at MSTN.

LMT 10.5"
Larue 7.0 forend
PRI Gas Buster Charging Handle
LMT Full Auto Bolt Carrier Group
Crane O-ring on extractor spring
Phantom Flash Suppressor from YHM.

I added the Eo-Tech and Surefire myself.

It runs very well and has much less flash and kick than I would have imagined from a shorty.

Some of the home-made or other brand shorty M4's I have seen in over the years were not well done. They were excessively loud, harsh to shoot and unreliable.

This MSTN gun has really changed my opinion on short M4's.

In Iraq we resorted to carrying beat-up folder AK's, old sub-guns, and multiple pistols in an effort to remain low-viz. The 14.5 inch guns were just to long for some of the jobs we did. The full size M4's were too long and cumbersome to work in the small haji sized cars we rolled in.

I have not shot it beyond 50 meters yet, but it was more than combat accurate at this distance.
