Jeff Hilton

All, While in Washington state last week, attending to a family death, I received a call from Shannon Hilton, Jeff's daughter. Jeff past away on January 24, 2013.

Jeff was a member of A company 5th S.F. Bn but prior to that he served in VietNam with the 5th S.F. Group. Jeff was with the 3rd Corp Mike Force during his tour, as an aside one of his fellow "strikers" was the late Paul Ireland. Jeff originally started his S.F. training as a medic, where I initially met him, in 1968. Jeff, as I recall, finished his SF training as an engineer, "if you can't build it then blew it up" may have been his class motto.

According to Shannon Hilton, the family will have a memorial service either late this Spring or around the Summer soltise (where alcohol can not be served after dark, I think). I informed Shannon that if it is around the Soltise I will not be able to attend, as I will be attending my sister memorial celebration of life, but if it is earlier in the Spring I will try to attend though Anchorage is a bit out of the way. Jeff was a good friend, fellow veteran of the FTX that was won by soldiers but lost by politicians. Jeff will be known as the first winner of the coyote award, due to a late night drill weekend visit to the Eastside Story. He will be missed by many of which I am one.

Jim Wittstock

Edit: I'm not Jim!
