Sergeant 1st Class Riley Gene Stephens, 39, was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), headquartered at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was a Special Forces medical sergeant.

This was his fifth deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom

This one hurt bad. One thing I've learned about 6+ years in the Regiment as a support Soldier, you get to know people well. This serves to better understand these men in what they do and how they do it, but the unintended consequence is when they are killed doing what they love and for something bigger than themselves, it hurts.

RIP Riley, I'm going to miss you and your very direct attitude. Never a grey statement from you, just the truth that needed to be told.

Once you get settled in Brother get your Ass to the DZSO and pull your medical coverage on the Final DZ and Link Up with Bill, Tony and Kyle, tell them Hello.
Enjoy Brother, I'll be looking for'ya with the rest, after my arrival, as soon as I gey my Chute!!

Thoughts and Prayers out to all!! We will miss Him here, but now have another to look forward to seeing again. I’ll keep a beer open for you Brother you will be missed!!
