Danner Desert Eagle TFX 8" Boot

Big thumbs up.

I really like these boots. They have a number of good features that you would appreciate in a boot. For example, the leather strip on the tongue to keep the laces from binding on your foot. They are amazingly quiet especially on surfaces that are normally sqeaky. The first time I walked on lenoleum I felt like a ninja it was so quite. They feel like they come up higher than my standard issue boots, but they are very flexible straight out of the box with no need for break in. In fact I went through some land nav the second day I wore them and they were great. I sweat like a pig, but my feet were pretty dry. I was concered about this because they are waterproof gortex boots. My feet sweat way more in the Oakleys. They are a bit darker than issued desert boots. The soles are very comfortable. They are not very heavy or bulky. Well worth the money I think.

I purchased a pair of these boots about 1 month ago after some extensive shopping and questioning of users of other boots.

The day they arrived, I put them on and found them to be "true to running shoe" size. I had to order them on-line and have 'em shipped, so the sizing issue was a relief. Also, Top said they were good-to-go for uniform standards.

I initially found them to be a bit heavier and "bulkier" in feel from the Oakley's, but the noticable differences in construction explain that. They were immediately comfortable and felt broken in right away.

I wore them around the FOB for 2 days and then had an opportunity to field test them. I wore them on a 4 day dismounted RECON/Scout mission and must say they were great! No hot spots, no tired feet...nothing. I was wearing my IBA, all the stuff I usually attach to it, plus my bug-out pack and Med supplies. Total additional weight was roughly 85 pounds.

The leather is tough as hell. The water proofing is excellent (shed water like a duck), and the soles are glued and stitched, so no peeling or pulling away.

The only "flaw" I've seen so far is the laces wear quickly at the ankle bend.

Well worth the 120-140 (depending on where you buy them) that I paid.

Soldier Doc - Did you field lace the boots? Skip over the eyelets/guides directly at the ankle? It might help with the lace wear and also allows a little more lateral movement of the ankle without sacrificing support.
