18x Medical Question

QP's,

Is asplenia a 100% disqualifier? No questions asked? Is this ruling as firm as the age minimum?

I have searched this site and the entire internet. The information I collected from this forum was not entirely accurate. A post stated that asplenia d/q's a prospective recruit from Airborne and from signing an 18x contract. To my understanding, pertaining to Airborne, this is only the case if a waiver is needed. In my case, no waivers are needed across the board, whatsoever.

Also, elsewhere on the internet, I read that an individual had contacted the SORB at Ft. Bragg to ask this exact question. He was told that, no, asplenia is not an issue for SF training.

This sends conflicting information when considering 40-501 states, under Chapter 5-3: a(6) For Special Forces initial training, asplenia (absence of the spleen) for any reason.

Are there some exceptions? Is this waiverable?

I ask about the age minimum because I have heard of recruits signing 18x contracts right out of high school, as well as 30-35 year olds with a waiver.

Could someone clear this up for me?

AR 40-501 is the authoritative document.

You would need to request a waiver, as the AR 40-501 thread states.

I doubt you will get it.
