Leatherman Group Buy - Complaints regarding politics
If you can, you may want to wait til after the election, seeing as Tim Leatherman has chosen to support Kerry.

I know Tim, and unless I miss my guess, if you boycott everyone who is a Kerry supporter, you will be missing about 49% of the available goods on the market. What does it matter waiting till after the election, is Tim going to give all of his money to Kerry to suddenly change the election results? I can use the tool no matter who wins, and he isn't making much on these.
Leatherman's opposition is polite and seems to be based on environmental issues. As an American, I can tolerate reasonable dissent, particularly when the maker is producing the best tool available.
On most boards, it is considered bad manners to jump in and piss all over someone's else's good deal being offered. Think about it.

Now, everybody can place their complaints about Tim Leatherman's politics here and leave the other thread to those that wish to buy. If you don't want one, simply do not post on that other thread. Feel free not to partake if you feel that strongly about it. Nobody ever said you had to buy one. However, do not ruin it for everybody else.
Some of our members have gone to a lot of trouble to make this happen. A lot more trouble than many of you know. Respect their decisions as they respect yours.

If one of you guys designs and successfully produces a better American Made Tool than Leatherman I'll buy it instead. If you don't buy a Leatherman because of his politics that's fine but you'd damn sure better look into the politics of the union members who built your car. The purchase of an American made automobile puts a hell of a lot more money into the democratic party than any pliers tool. I know none of you would buy foriegn made autos, that would be downright anti-American.

1) Not calling for a boycott, just a 19 day delay.
2) I don't care WHY Leatherman and the other guy want Kerry to win; if Kerry gets elected he doesn't just get to deal with environmental issues.
3) Leathermans are fine tools. I own one. If I ever need to replace it, it wil likely be with another Leatherman.
4) I dirve a jeep. I believe its made mostly in Mexico, plus I've never owned a new car, so very very little of my money has gone to any manufacturer. As organized labor put my grandfather out of business and the defeat of organized labor has been the life's work of my father, I'm well aware of their politics and how they operate.
As long as SOWF gets some dough I hope D9 spites me a bunch.

Interesting viewpoints.
I can serve 24 years in the military and still be considered un-American if I don't buy Union. That's just peachy.
I presently have an all American garage. Chevy truck, HD M/C, Dodge Intrepid, and Jeep Wrangler. I have tried to support American workers whenever I can.
The Unions want us to buy American products to support them. I find their tactic's of running across the border into Canada to buy products that are made here in the U.S. just as un-American.

In less than 19 days, this offer will be over.
In order to get these things engraved and back in time for Christmas, the money has to be tendered before 31 Oct. I do not think an order placed at that time will hand the election over to Kerry.
You may replace your Leatherman, and you may get a good price, but you will not likely be able to replace it with one engraved like this.
Given people like yourself raining on the parade, it is highly unlikely that I will ever try to put a group buy together here again.

Well, let me proudly state as a red-blooded, God-fearing American that my garage houses a BMW and a Lexus. LMAO!

Well, you're a lawyer. Anything less than a 530 is just unacceptable.

LOL -- Mine is a 540. I think they are now making cars in South Carolina or Tennessee or somewhere like that, but I crack myself up.

What is the purpose of waiting until after the elections and then buying them?

Apparently there's about as much reason as there is for me to keep checking this site.
