OUR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS WILL KILL US !

Secretary Rumsfeld is quoted as saying: “Zealots and despots bent on destroying the global system of nation-states, are turning out newly trained terrorists faster than the United States can capture or kill them.”

Newly recruited and trained terrorists are being turned out every day in all countries around the world, including the United States, and all the free nations of the world are having to find them and fight them, to prevent innocent deaths. We all recognize this, but fail to allow the intelligence and law enforcement agencies to take the steps necessary to stem the tide of terrorism.

In America, we have a group of people, including the junior Senator from New York, who appear to be more concerned over the possibility of infringing on someone’s personal rights, than on doing what has to be done to stop this terrorism cancer from spreading all over the world.

Terrorist do not wear a uniform or carry a sign reading, “I Am A Terrorist”. Their identity is hidden and they are concealed in many places, sometimes just lost in the crowd of people who dress, talk, act and worship just like them. If terrorism is gong to be stopped and the world freed from this horrendous threat, the law enforcement and intelligence agencies are going to have to be given total latitude in finding and destroying them, even if their activities infringe on the personal rights of the individual citizen. They are going to have to be able to turn over every rock and look behind every door, without having to follow a set of guidelines, designed to protect the rights of those who want us dead.

Some say this is equivalent to having a “Secret Police”, reminiscent of those employed by the NAZI Party, the Soviets, the Chinese and even Saddam, and this may be close to the truth. But, the problem still exists: How can we defeat terrorism if we cannot identify the terrorist and how can we identify the terrorist, if the eyes are covered and the hands tied on our intelligence and law enforcement agencies? If we must surrender some of our individual freedoms to prevent the loss of the entire nation and perhaps the world to a group of people whose ultimate goal is the death and destruction of all freedom loving people, then what is the best choice? We all know there are no negotiations, no appeasement, and no co-existence with these people, so what can we do other than have the resolve to defeat their cause regardless of the cost we have to pay? We need, not only to surrender some of our individual freedoms for a time, but we need to do everything we can to assist our intelligence and law enforcement agencies to carry out these distasteful tasks. Our Freedoms have always come with a price and it is time for this generation to pay it’s dues.
