Autopsy results are in...

The results are in for the TASER shooting. Cause of death was a "combination" of Meth & Ecstacy with the TASER ultimately finishing him off (my paraphrase).

Parents are now suing the Police Department, the officer, and TASER International. The attorney for the family, however, seems to be really sighting in on the officer and TASER International for some reason in the lawsuit. I would think that going after the department and TASER Int. would be the way to go. Attorney's can you explain this tactic?

Parents still maintain that the officer should of used better judgment and waited for back-up to arrive. They also stated that if it was that important for the officer to stop the subject, then she should of used her OC and/or ASP, and not the TASER because of its "bad" reputation for killing people.

Here is the kicker, the parents and the family land shark are stating that the officer should have taken more time and talked the subject down from his hostility. The officer should have been better trained to handle these types of situations and acted responsibly, not recklessly. They also maintain that LEO's all over would rather use force on subjects who are either under the influence and/or MDP's (Mentally Disturbed Patient/Person). Officers need to talk more to people rather than using the TASER.

What will be next...

There was a very recent, as in yesterday, case here in Chicago involving a police Sgt where a meth head died from being tased, according to the coroner. Probably would have died from a beat down incident to arrest anyways. S/F....Ken M

Or, casualties to the officers. We pay LEO to protect us if they cannot protect themselves?

Taser won't pay!

This kid probably would have died from an O.D. even if he was sitting in his living room.

Don't get high.

Don't attract LE attention.

Comply with officer commands.

Or learn the hard way and travel up the use of force continuum till you comply, or die.

Chlorine in the gene pool.

On a similar track, I heard an idiot police chief here in the US say the other day that his officers were taught to shoot to wound, rather than kill. What a complete idiot, how do people like that get to be in charge?

Sir, how about a police chief that as a soldier conspired with his Iranian captors at the embassy in 79-80? A guy that was punted from an SFG when his past became known? The same guy that was investigated at his previous job as a police chief for buying MP5s with funds appropriated for body armor?

Political networking (good and bad), back stabbing, willingness to place your own selfish needs above the needs of the troops...in short, become a sycophant.

Lack of leadership strikes many a department Sir. I've seen it too often.

Goggles Pizano,

I couldn't of said any better myself!

and just FYI, mine was implicated in a "double-dipping" that involved another agency. Two were fired (the other department), One became Chief of my department, and the other two became Captains (again, my department).

Sometimes in this job, it is very difficult to determine who the enemy is.
