Meditation/Internal Martial Arts

Who here practices meditation or internal martial arts like aikido or tai chi?

I've tried Aikido and I said "fuck it" if they go for my head I'll go for the balls. Meditation only works for me when I'm trying to find a way out. Oh yeah, instead of Aikido I would go with Shotokan,at least you gave it your best.

Got a couple years of Aikido under my belt, (5th Que)

Interesting art and I really like it. However, as a "fighting" art, it takes years before I'd feel confident to execute some of the techniques. They are very subtle and require a lot of expertise. However, the joint locks and throws are extremely brutal as far as taking up someone's bones/spine/body and you can learn those quickly.

It is a great complement to combatives and other martial arts though. The theory works well when fighting bigger opponents.

did tai-chi for years since high school. Breathing, movement, meditation, sparing, applications, and all

....all replaced by gun-fu in 'Murica

In all seriousness, the mind-body awareness developed in those arts (and classical music training i.e. violin, piano, sax, etc.) readily transfers to highly mental and dexterous activity such as competitive/surgical marksmanship

Have done our own internal Todd Group CQB Combatives training and Gracie BJJ ground fighting.

As far as meditation goes have been experimenting with soldiers in "two minute mindfulness" and "mental IA"(Immediate Action)drills for rifle at both CQB and longer distances when under high physical stress.

I reckon mental conditioning(paralleling best practices in sports/performance psychology) will become the "next big thing" to begin to shift into military training.
