Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes he will beget, and I will make him a great nation." these themes of Hagar's rejection and humiliation at the hands of the mother of Israel (and by extension through the House of David, of Christianity) played out frequently while i was in the box monitoring sermons and propaganda eminating from Iran, Lebanon and other potential adversaries...if one accepts (as Mohammed did) the Old Testament notion that a great nation would rise from the bastard offspring of a humiliated handmaiden, and that this nation would be in constant struggle with the legitimate offspring of a common father within the region, then the themes of avenging Israeli and Western (read Christian) humiliations of the past 3-4000 years can be explained in that context...i guess...
a whole culture with self-esteem problems, all going back to a spousal directed dalliance with the hired help...
