Being an optician, I resemble that remark.

As you indicated you are really speaking of apples and oranges. Dominance has nothing to do with VA (visual acuity). The dominate eye is the one the brain chooses as its primary. People with equal VA in both eyes still have a dominate eye. If the power of one eye is greatly different from the other, you will suffer from double vision (di-plopia).
