I will assume that since they were skin sutures and you could see them to cut the knot they were permanent, like nylon, prolene or silk...
were they black or blue in color?
If that is the case, they will do one of three things...
1. work their way to the surface and you will once again see them and be able to take them out
2. your body will seal them off as foreign bodies and form a little purulent pocket (stitch abscess)...more common if silk was used so probably not the case here.
3. your body will seal them off and you will never know you lost the stuff under the surface of your skin except if you can feel the suture.
even non absorbable suture eventually gets broken down....
you are in the company of many an intern...only they usually don't tell.
