Too much Neatsfoot Oil and extreme wear.
Only problem I have had with Tuffcushions has been sole wear, and since I wear them when riding the scooter, I can't really complain.
Since I switched to the Desert Boots, the sole wear has improved greatly.
I would take them by the Combat Footgear store on Reilly Road, and ask them what they think. Can't hurt, and they may have a resoling program.
If you keep them, try caulking them up with some Shoe Goo or industrial adhesive from the tube like Liquid Nails.
