My son is graduating from Michigan Tech with a Chemical Engineering degree this Saturday.

He is also enrolled in an Accelerated Masters Program and has earned 8 of the 33 credits he needs for his MS degree this year on the state's dime. One more year, and he will have his Masters in Chemical Engineering.

After that he is considering obtaining an MBA if a program that offers tuition reimbursement in the form of a teachership or fellowship of some kind can be found. Then he will get 3 years experience working somewhere else at my insistence, and then he wants to come to work with me. I hope I can afford the salary he will command at that point.

He and I sat down back in his Freshman year and based on my advice, he set up his education plan. He has not had a hiccup yet. When my kids were growing up, when we were talking, I always treated it as a given that they would go to college and get postgraduate degrees. It seems to be working with my Freshman daughter, also at Tech, as well so far. She wants to get a MS degree as well.

None of the college idiocy of the past 4 years made it to the UP of Michigan, thank God. I would periodically jokingly ask him how big the protests were up there. He always replied that everyone was too busy studying to have time to engage in any nonsense. "We're engineering students, dad. We don't have time for any of that crap."

Luckily enough for our country, not all the college kids have shit for brains.

I am as proud as I could possibly be.
