I'm new to this ocean fishing stuff, but something slammed my plastic shrimp and almost ripped the pole out of my hands and then stripped off line and pulled me around a bit. Could have been a 4-5 lb jack or small bonita,, 10x the power they look like..
Although a good stiff leader is nice,, it's easier and faster to tie an 18-24 inch bimini twist. The toothy one will bite thru it but it's great grocery fishing.
