RL-
FWIW, I was cruising Academy Sports this afternoon and came across this for $59. It works great, runs on 8 AA batteries, has a key override if needed, has a motion detector alarm built-in to sound off if someone is fumbling around with it, and uses a five digit code. I played with it and the actual namebrand GunVault at the store. I actually found that this one was much easier to manipulate the buttons than the GunVault. The door is spring loaded and it has access holes to mount permanently (well semi-permanent) either in a closet, car, or on a wall.

It is not bad at all for the price at all either. I bought one and I really like it.

All of a sudden, I feel the need to go shooting with you. How are we going to make that happen? I am prepared to bring the Team Sergeant. (There will be a price, but I'll pay it.)

You may have to travel.

[Edited to add: Yes, I have been drinking. But I can still correct my typos. ]
