I think that is a great letter and should be made public for debate with the anti gun people. I have to agree with rubberneck's assesment; The LE market while large will not have the turnover rate on weapons required to keep the companies listed in business. Unless of course they decide to upgrade every three years or so at minimal cost (which would send respective city, state, county governments into a foam laced rage anyway regarding budgets). So yes without the private sector the manufacturers are DOA. I'm inclined to believe CEO's like Ronnie Barrett are waiting out the political argument in the media from liberal, anti gun back toward conservative, pro gun, home defence, hunting etc.

Believe it or not the gun companies don't make much if anything on sales to governmental agencies. Kimber sells the TLE to the LAPD for below cost because of the free publicity they get for it. They just tack the cost onto the civilian version. Sigs Homeland defense contract has them selling the guns $300 (IIRC) cheaper than you or I could get our hands on them for.
