Any of the reef fish the eat coral or eat fish that eat coral,, can & do carry Ciguatera. Ciguatera is most common in the warm waters of the coral reefs of the Caribbean.

If you do eat it, I would keep the frequency to 2-3 times a year,, OR LESS.. The poison is accumulative. It may not effect you until you eat XX amount. YMMV..

It is good eating.. Mild white fillets providing you cut out all the red meat.. In some restaurants you will see it on the menu as "bay snapper"
