For argument sake I did in fact say "real" goals.
We went to Afghanistan because they were the closest thing to a causative agent for 9/11 and by somebody had to get an ass kicking for what happened.
I dont disagree with your comment about politics and mission creep. I dont believe we ever "had it won". We put on the gloves, knocked the guy down and called that an "almost"
...then we spent the next 8 years doing a modern warfare version of the rope a dope hoping these savages would surrender.
