I didn't read the entire summary, and I don't believe I need to to make up my mind about this culture.

This is a culture that condones throwing acid into the face of "their own" woman and children, setting women on fire, and a culture that murders (honor killings) and imprisons their children for thoughts of love. This is not human behavior but sub-human behavior.

You don't need a PhD to realize that this culture is not yet reached a western level of what we might consider "civilized human behavior".

The only way to prevent this sub-human behavior is through education, but their ideology prohibits their path to a proper education, a dog chasing its tail.

The only thing that has changed in this culture in two thousand years is now they kill with AK-47's instead of swords.

I see no end in sight.

The taliban is not the problem, the problem is their culture and religious ideology. We can't "kill" their culture or their religious ideology but we can punish such behavior.

My personal thoughts would be to isolate them as a nation/culture and inform them that when they are ready to join the world as a culture they must first meet criteria set by the civilized nations of the world. That's not going to happen either.

Until the world "targets" their ideology and the way they think absolutely nothing will change.

Which begs the question, are we not as stupid for thinking we can change them?

Asymmetric warfare is a cool term but it's not working.

We have in fact changed such fanatical cultures in the past but the cost was high. We changed the way Germany and Japan thought, we broke their will to fight, but only after applying the most severe measures. And that is the problem with this "conflict", we are not "affecting" the entire population, we are only targeting the combatants when we should be targeting the ideology. And we will not target their ideology because many in the west think this is a "religion" and should be "protected" under what we consider a "religious freedom imperative". Another dog chasing its tail.

I was taught the reason for a strong standing army was to "prevent" war. It would seem that has not been true for half a century. We have been attacked by a culture that lives in mud huts and who would have thought we still be fighting these people after 11 years? Are we out of our minds?

Our "leaders" are more inclined to do reality shows than to discuss what we as a nation should do concerning the war in A-Stan. Our politicians will not even discuss the war in debate. We have become complacent while our warriors die each day.

And there's that quote:

"Marines are fighting, American is at the mall."

The most profound quote of the 21 century.........
