I studied in U. of Pretoria in '91-92, have lots of friends in your beautiful country, and also toured a bit of africa (backpacking) in 1993. I'm from south america, and it to me africa has the same problems but on a much larger scale.

You bring up the eternal question of someone who wants change and real progress in a poor, illiterate, visceral, pseudodemocratic country: how does one try to become the choice of the poorly informed and incompetent voter?

But I think most of the ANC leaders (as well as our own) do know they are incompetent, they just don't care as long as they stay in power and fill their pockets. Lying to get elected and stay in power in a long tradition all over the world.
