The issue of Garands or carbines from South Korea predates the Ovomit administration. They won't be going to the CMP because they are not returning
loaned weapons on the small-arms rolls of the USG. They were
sold to South Korea, which is a different deal, which is why CMP won't see them (unless they wanted to start bidding like other importers *IF* the G lets them in the country). In terms of import restrictions there is plenty of bi-partisan blame to go around, going way back.

It is also timely & convenient for the current regime to pander to veterans of all generations; they can show how magnanimous they are since these haven't made their way from Phoenix to Sinaloa. Cynical? Me?
I do agree these are likely to be some pretty "rode hard & put-up wet" guns.
