I had the privilege and honor to shake the hand of this brave man today… I was waiting in the local sew shop near Join Base Lewis-McChord to get my BDUs sewn up for our trip to Thailand, and in walks SFC Petry. He was dressed in blues with out his top. That’s when I recognized his medal around his neck. I was confused for a second then star-struck when I realized who it was. I stood up and asked if I could shake a hero’s hand. He reached out with his bionic hand of awesomeness and gently squeezed as the electric motors manipulate his grip around my hand. He obviously had a shindig he was going to and seemed in a hurry so I wasn’t going to ask for a picture with the man. I thanked him for his bravery and he left with whatever he had to pick up. This was an experience I thought I would share.
