Such unnecessary hyperbole only lends itself to feeding our enemy's "narrative" and makes us appear further from our openly declared national ideals than we are...or should be. IMO those ideals remain a valid goal and should not be treated by any of us like some sort of antique piece of furniture which is nice to talk about and show off, but too fragile for us to use.

Disagree. One of the incontrovertible rules of command - good or bad, when it happens on your watch, you own it. Ask JEC about that one when deciding upon such a course of action at that level of command.
