When I initially enlisted in September (2010), I was told that there were no spots for 18X. I was also told that out of 98,000 contracts that are available for FY2011, 30,000 had already been written by September 2010. I did have luck however when this new year opened up, so I believe it was just a timing issue and the recruiter was trying to close the year.

Just to elaborate a bit on the above, I too have a similar ship date for basic 20110525. This morning (10-27-2010) when I was selecting the MOS, the recruiter had to call his supervisor to put the 18x into the software. It wipes out all the other other options and I was shown how many slots were available.
There was no mention of the 18x program being discontinued then again I'm not sure they would have that information.
