The Basics
The simplest way to explain it is that you can man handle an M4 mag out just grab it and yank it after all we all know to remove the source of feed first.
However let me put this part into context....We train as we fight....
doing remedial action on a pistol means you first had to do immediate action which also means your primary went down so.....you may be having a bad day and a short time to fix it, but when you perform immediate action you either A- fix the problem and continue your engagements, B- find out you are out of ammo and now the slide locks back on its own, or C- debris or something keeps the round from entering the chamber which keeps it out of battery. If you hit the mag release it wont fall the half in/half out round holds the magazine in the weapon. We used to teach in the CIF to use another magazine and hook the on each other to strip it out but it didn't make any sense we went with the KISS principle economy of motion all 3 require you to jack back the slide
