On reflection, there is another question that might be important.
I live in San Antonio, Texas. Do I have a strong sense of belonging to the city and state? Sure.
But suppose someone asked if I would join others to defend San Antonio against the U.S. Army. My answer would be something like "Feet, don't fail me now!"
Likewise, let us suppose that a certain retired member of the U.S. Army asked me to provide information about the hypothetical rebels. My answer would be favorable.
So - I may see myself as belonging to the areas mentioned, but that does not mean I would defend them against all others. And I just might betray them.
Is it possible that the individuals accessed in the survey have similar notions? I suspect so.
