In the local area every time a Robin sage starts there is a small blurb in the Fayeteville Observer and many of the smaller local, town papers.
One reason is to simply alert the locals that it will be going on. Not nice to have any of the students get shot by a cop
.
At least every couple of years a bigger, more in depth story is done by the Observer.
And every so often a major news outlet thinks "Hey, that would make a great national news item" and they do a big story.
