both of them concern me...but it's a dilemma. After all, persecution only confirms what's been written. So, if they have truly counted the cost and are willing to pay the price, do they really need or want help?
Sometime ago in a distant past, I played in a fund-raising orchestra in what's left of a church after being burnt in a city-wide riot targeting Christians and ethnic minority. Flashbacks to those days always put me in a contemplative mood:
- From a pragmatic/pratical standpoints, what's the big deal...if one values life, family, wants to live on to raise the kids and see them grow etc. then convert to Islam and keep on living, or move out. Evolve or perish...
- Then I realize it's more than just choosing a belief system, it is an exercise of freedom. The willingness to face persecution to the point of death shows true dedication (or pure stupidity to some) and is admirable, IMHO, especially when the faith does not involve having others die to grant entrance to the good version of after life.
- Finally, there's always: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose." Jim Elliot.
I am thankful in good 'ol USA (so far), that freedom has not been tempered heavily. The trend is definitely worrisome, so I'm with you greenberetTFS
