Not as bad as all that.
18 inch barrel will decrease the velocity about 50 FPS each 1 inch. So maybe 400 fps. Aiming is not as good with a shorter sight radius on the barrel but that is irrelevant with a scope.
In the Close quarter and out situation I'm good with .308.
