I was born in Ukraine, on my mothers side I grew up hearing the war stories of my elders (my great aunt was a decorated sniper, her husband was a tank commander). On my fathers side I grew up hearing about war, as well as the ovens. The fact that my entire family was accepted here, Jew or Gentile, is a great source of motivation in my goal of becoming a QP.

When I first found this site it scared the shit out of me. I knew where I stood politically, and it was obviouse where the majority of the QP's stood. None the less, I signed them papers. Am I to assume that I won't be accepted on a team becuase I lean left? Even if I bust my ass serving this country? I have wanted to ask this for some time...

Thank you Sir

You heard a bunch of old war stories. Everyone has them.

IMHO, you are too young to remember socialism, communism, or the collectives.

The goal of our capitalist system in this country should be to provide everyone the opportunity to succeed (or fail) through their own labors.

That differs significantly from the "from each, according to his means, to each, according to his needs" our new President Elect seems to believe in.

On a seperate note, he seems to feel that litigation is a viable solution to politically unpalatable legislation, and I abhor that concept.

Having said all of that, it is not the leaning that I object to but the lack of factual evidence to support it.

You cannot build a successful society by dragging the top-performers down. You build it by raising everyone up.

Unless you educate yourself and find the facts to support your positions, your lib leanings will probably cause your teammates to believe that you are not terribly bright. If you are very good at what you do, you will likely be accepted regardless, but looked at funny. If you cannot make a good argument supporting your positions, you should probably keep your mouth shut about your opinions. That is what a good SF guy would do in a potentially hostile situation.

Just my .02, you asked.
