Notice all of the "Brass Bracelets" that he wore, even in the Westerns ?? Those were Montagnard "Ceremonial Ricewine Bracelets". When you went to one of these "Ceremonies", you would sometimes adopt the "Native Dress" ie. Loincloth, and then proceed to drink the wine !!

And, the Yards expected you to wear the braclets all the time or it was an offense to the village chief. This became a challenge after you started to accumulate them from each of the villages in the AO. As we had seven we accumulated seven bracelets. Fortunately they all looked the same so on operations we would remove all but one so we didn't sound like a heard of cows wandering around lost in the rain forest. They also had a ceremony we went thru that protected us from the lightning god. The conculsion of that ceremony was a beaded necklace that remained on for the duration of the tour because not only did you not want to offend the particular chief that presented it to you but you sure as hell did not want to tick off their most powerful diety. So on one hand they made you a lightning rod with the bracelets but provided you protection around your neck with a necklace.
